Bodies, Borders, Migrations Workshop, Munich Germany (16 Jun 2017)
In this workshop, we will create artistic explorations and initiate community dialogue that draws on our personal/ancestral migration histories, while engaging with the realities of people who are directly affected by a growing global resurgence of xenophobia, violent nationalism, and border anxiety. We want to jointly interrogate the relationships between the body and the geopolitical, between individual experience, the shared space of community, and political contexts and developments. The facilitators, Sandra Chatterjee and Cynthia Ling Lee of the Post Natyam Collective, will also show glimpses of in-process material from their ongoing project, Borders Resurfacing, which investigates themes of migrations, borders, bodies, and citizenship.
Please bring something to write with and wear comfortable clothing that you can move freely in.
The workshop will end in a casual gathering with snacks to continue talking and sharing!
The Post Natyam Collective is a transnational, web-based coalition of dance artists based in Germany, Austria, India, and the US, whose combined ancestral migrations include movements from Tamil Nadu to London, from Fujian to Taiwan, from West Bengal and Vinschgau to Munich, and from Vijaywada to Berkeley, for reasons of settler-colonialism, fleeing political instability and casteism, education, and economic motivations. The work of the collective flows between artmaking, theory, and activism through a multivocal process-based methodology that engages our different geocultural contexts, politics, and aesthetic priorities.
