“Pacific Offering” at Santa Monica, CA (2 Aug 2016)

This ritual offering, enacted with a few loved ones at the Pacific Ocean, completed my June performance of blood run at Highways Performance Space.  During blood run, audience members were asked to write letters to their lost ancestors.  During “Pacific Offering,” these letters were burned, and their ashes were offered to the Pacific Ocean along with millet, tobacco, and flowers.  The ritual included a reading of President Tsai Ing-Wen’s formal apology to Taiwan’s indigenous peoples from August 1, 2016.
