Dance Studies Association Conference, Northwestern University, Chicago IL (Aug 8-11, 2019)
I’m delighted to be presenting a talk, “Natya as Postcolonial Performance-Making,” as part of the “Decolonizing Dance Discourses” gatherings organized by Anurima Banerji and Royona Mitra at this year’s Dance Studies Association Conference at Northwestern University. These gatherings critically examine key terms from dance studies: “dance,” “choreography,” “training” and “technique.” Other speakers include Maria Firmino-Castillo (University of California, Riverside), Prarthana Purkayastha (Royal Holloway University, London), Jasmine Johnson (Brown University), Anusha Kedhar (University of California, Riverside), Arabella Stanger (University of Sussex), Imani Johnson (University of California, Riverside), Janet O’Shea (University of California, Los Angeles), and
Shanti Pillai (Williams College), Clare Croft (University of Michigan), Anthea Kraut (University of California, Riverside), and Munjulika Tarah (Williams College). I’ll also be participating in a peer review writing workshop for the book project, Handbook on Indian Dance (eds. Anurima Banerji and Prarthana Purkyastha), for which my book chapter-in-progress will be co-authored with Sandra Chatterjee.
